Here we go: Another H5P content type for you. The concept is not new, you will know it from Image Hotspots. But what if you wanted the image to be a 3D model instead? Then 3D Image Hotspots has you covered now! Please thank the Medical Sciences Div Office of the University of Oxford for sponsoring!
That’s kind of familiar right? You can add hotspots, you can assign text, images, audios and video to them. And those pop up in an overlay. Oh, and you may have noticed that you can add a background image behind the model. What would a duck be without a pond to dabble in.
But I know that some of you don’t like the image/model to be hidden. So, 3D Image Hotspots also allows you to display the content in a separate panel on the side (or underneath the model depending on the available space).
And if you install this content type, see below, you can also play with some width and height settings. But that’s it already. If you need more features … Then wait! H5P Group is preparing to evaluate whether they should merge Image Hotspots and 3D Image Hotspots somehow. Might make sense to wait for them. Either way, rest assured that they have been asked to review the content type, and when they find time, they should release it on the H5P Hub.
Want to use it already?
If you do not want to wait but to use the content type right away, look for the Reuse button underneath the content. Use that button to download the demo content, and then upload the .h5p file onto your H5P enabled platform. Please note that you will need to have permission to install H5P libraries. Otherwise, you cannot install the content type this way. In that case, your system admin will need to assist you.
The source code is available as well, if you want to check it before installing or if you want to build the libraries yourself:
- https://github.com/ndlano/h5p-editor-3d-model
Is it available in my language?
In theory: yes! If it’s missing, you can fill in the gaps yourself.
Any future plans for that content type?
I know you want to share your ideas. Please keep in mind though, that I was merely the contractor! I do not have the intention to develop it further in my spare time beyond fixing hidden bugs or general maintenance. But if you want to sponsor new features: Reach out!
